Graduation Ceremony 2008 for Raffles Graduates at Mongolia |

A graduation ceremony was held on 8 November 2008 for the Raffles graduates at Mongolia. Our college at Mongolia, Hartford Institute, had also invited industry representatives from Golomt Bank, Hilton Hotel and etc, to grace this occasion. Many of them, including Mrs.Altantsetseg of the Zoos Bank, took the opportunity to welcome Raffles graduates to apply for jobs in their companies.
We wish our graduates all the best for their careers and future endeavours.

| New Professorial Appointments |

Raffles University Systems is pleased to announce four new Professorial appointments that were made in late October 2008. Four staff from China and Australia were awarded the title of Associate Professor: Anthony Bednall of Beijing, Greg Pritchard of Sydney, and Panos Thomas and Julie Ross of Singapore.
Professor Ron Newman, Senior Vice President, who chaired the Appointments Committee reflected: “I was pleased to see a strong response by the Raffles academic staff to the call for applications. The committee deliberations were both demanding and difficult. The staff who have received the promotion richly deserve it and have the group’s congratulations. We are proud of the collective achievements of all applicants. This exercise hopes to encourage staff to improve and develop themselves continually in their academic and teaching careers.”

| Recognition by Top Chinese Fine Art Academy |

The Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), the only art academy of higher learning directly under the Ministry of Education, was founded in April 1950. It is located in Beijing, the capital of China, is an academy where culture, history and art are flourishing, which enjoys the best art resources of the world. CAFA, as a leading institution for modern art education in China, provides a rich land for those who wish to learn experience and engage in creativities, which has nurtured quite a lot of pre-eminent artists in the past ninety years. CAFA alumni include some of China’s most successful new artists, including Liu Wei, Fang Lijun and Zhang Huan.
We are happy that CAFA has recognized the quality of Raffles education. Qualified Raffles design graduates may now pursue their Postgraduate studies in Design with CAFA. |

| Continuing Professional Development Seminar |

| A one-day Continuing Professional Development seminar lead by RUS was held on 17 April 2008. It was a successful event attended by 26 academic staff of Raffles Education Corporation network. The participants included REC Associate College Managers, Academic Directors from across the network, Programme Directors lecturers and administrative staff. |

| Academic Advisory Council and Academic Directors Meeting |
| |
The Academic Advisory Council (AAC) of Raffles University Systems met with the Academic Directors from various degree teaching colleges on 18 April 2008 with the view to seek feedback on the academic operations at the Associated Colleges. The Council found the meeting with the Academic Directors to be useful and informative. The meeting also served as a good platform for members od the AAC to share information and learn about critical issues felt by the Academic Directors. The Academic Directors left with a better understanding of the issues that are faced by the AAC and at the other sites and they have the support of the AAC in the pursuit of QA in their Associate Colleges. |

| Raffles Education Introduces New Generalist and Specialist Diplomas and Advanced Diploma in Business |

REC is pleased to announce the rationalization and development of the new Raffles Diploma in Commerce for introduction across the network from July 2008.
The Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Commerce are especially designed programmes that provide students with a broad background in business that covers a range of fundamental business concepts and skills and provides an access point to either level positions in the workplace, or entry into the RU and RCDC Commerce degrees.
The Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Commerce programmes enable students to acquire the thinking skills, understanding knowledge critical to key business functions. Those students on Generalist Advanced Diploma will developa broad understanding of the field of business and management and those on the Specialist Advanced Diploma can choose to specialize in Management, Marketing, Banking and Finance, Tourism and Hospitality. The programme objectives are delivered through lectures, seminars and tutorials and a range of assessmentmethods including research and project work, presentations, written assignments and examinations. The programme is normally studied full-time over 2 years, divided into 8 terms. Students who take a heavier load may complete the following programme in a minimum of 6 terms. Each term normally consists of 10 teaching weeks followed by one-week period of assessment and a further week of providing summative feedback to the student. |

| External Examiners' Visit for Raffles Degrees |

The External Examiner for the design degree visited the college in Beijing on 7th April 2008 and met up both the teaching staff and the students to review the standard of the Raffles design degree delivered at the college. the external Examiner was impressed with the standard and achievements of the students.
Meanwhile, the External Examiner for the business degree visited the colleges in Ulaanbaatar, Shanghai and Beijing from 4 to 10 April 2008 though there were no students graduating yet.
External examination is important to the quality assurance systems of Raffles University Systems providing us with an external view of its standards and an opportunity to benchmark against other institutions. |

| Articulations / Progression Arrangement (Oct 07) |

RUS has formed a number of articulation and progression arrangements with established international universities. These arrangements allow our students (Advanced Diploma and Degree) to gain advanced credit standing if they choose to study at the Universities at Bachelor and Master level respectively.
You may wish to contact RUS for the formal letters should you require them.

Napier University, Edinburgh
- Raffles Bachelor of Business Honours degree (normally at least 2nd class honours) qualifies into Masters programmes in Business & Management

Griffith University, Gold Coast, Australia
- Raffles Business & Design degrees qualify into Design and Business Masters Programmes

University of the West of England
- Raffles undergraduate degrees qualify into appropriate postgraduate programmes and would be required to meet any additional requirements e.g. work experience for the MBA and some postgraduate programmes will require specific subject knowledge.

Parsons The New School for Design, New York
- Graduates from Raffles Design programmes qualify into the application process to graduate programmes at Parsons The New School for Design, New York

- Graduates of Raffles from the business and design programmes will be accepted as qualified applicants for entry to relevant Design and Business Masters degrees at the University of Huddersfield.
